I’d love to find this in the forest. Feel the terror melt away as I muster the courage to approach it and marvel at it’s oddness.

He looks so natural in the landscape, he matches perfectly except his shape and form. It seems magical and fantastic.

By Anna Gillespie, constructed from materials that have fallen from trees; branches, leaves, bark, even acorns—each sculpture is created from trees and what nature provides for us. This ongoing series titled Taste the Rain, tries to draw its viewer in through their own experiences, encouraging them to think about scale and how even the tallest human is dwarfed by trees and nature.

By Jan Fabre, part of the Venice Biennial last year and now on show in Antwerp, Belgium from September. Pure white marble sculptures that have a superb macabre feeling, alongside an inventive take on spirituality and religion from his artistic point of view. Particularly fascinating how he uses the brain in his work, rather than typical representations coming from the heart.

By Rachel Elliott, curious glass sculptures made to mimic the fragile and complex structure created by bees. The clusters of each honeycomb within the glass makes for a really interesting overall piece of work, the details of the tiny bees makes it all the better.

Last December we posted about an awesome pair of Santa Cthulhu and Mrs. Cthulhu figures made by Amy L. Rawson. We loved them then and love them now. Even if it seems like Christmas is years away, Cthulhu is always in season.

So we were delighted to learn that Amy has a new, one-of-a-kind creation concerning our favourite evil cosmic entity, made in collaboration with Brian East. Meet Needle Felted Baby Cthulhu! Isn’t he cute? Even the Great Old Ones must’ve been wee once, right?

This awesome 8” tall, needle felted wool Baby Cthulhu comes complete with his own appropriately earth-shaped binky. Attention Cthulhu collectors, he’s for sale over on Etsy

Artist Alicia Martín’s tornado of books shoot out a window like a burst of water from a giant hose. The Spain-based artist’s sculptural installation at Casa de America, Madrid depicts a cavalcade of books streaming out of the side of a building. The whirlwind of literature defies gravity and draws attention with its grandeur and size. Thus far there have been three site-specific installations of the massive sculptural works in this series known as Biografias, translated as Biographies, that each feature approximately 5,000 books sprawled out around and atop one another.

Martín’s awesome book structures give life to the inanimate objects filled with knowledge. By constructing the curving towers with a rather free and disheveled exterior, while maintaining a sturdy core, the books’ loose pages are free to blow and rustle in the wind, allowing the piece to be further animated.

The Rotterdam-based Rotganzen artist collective shows us that sometimes disco balls need time to relax between wild nights of working hard creating ambience and dazzling partygoers.

This piece, entitled QUELLE FÊTE, 2012, was commissioned for Wenneker Pand in Schiedam, Netherlands. Photos by Rick Messemaker.
